EMbark Career and Professional Day at the IAEM Conference
Join the Global Student Council for the fourth annual offering of EMbark Career and Professional Day on Sunday, November 17th. If you are a student, recent graduate, new or transitioning emergency management professional, then EMbark is for you. Our session will start with a gathering for lunch at a nearby restaurant for those who are available to join us. Stay tuned for more details. For those who are not able to join us for lunch, we will start the educational sessions in the convention center at 12:45 pm and will conclude in time to take EMbark attendees to the Pre-Welcome Meet and Greet hosted by the IAEM Conference Committee.
The GSC has invited multiple speakers offering practical and useful information about communication, networking skills, and how to develop your Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) properly for applications. There will also be opportunities for Q&A with the speakers, networking with the attendees and the speakers, and surveys for feedback. We will also have our second annual EMbark Rapid Fire talks, an interactive opportunity where attendees can give 5-minute rapid-fire talks or a 15 to 20 minute talk about your specific topic of interest (research/job/interview practice/etc). Take this chance to build your public speaking skills and get valuable feedback. The longer talks can qualify toward the IAEM Certification Program under Professional Contribution Category F, Speaking. We will send out a signup sheet for these speaking slots in July. Watch this space and our social media accounts for the most up-to-date information.

Career Workshop – Looking for a Job in All the Right Places
Emergency Management is a fast growing, diverse profession that is no longer predominantly found in just the public sector. This year’s workshop will explore non-government opportunities, and how Emergency Managers can make themselves more competitive in today’s job market. Once you’ve identified that exciting job opportunity, ever wonder how you could make yourself more competitive? These questions are being asked more frequently by students enrolled in emergency management degree programs, people looking at changing jobs, and individuals transitioning to a new career completely. As our field continues to evolve, come hear some successful strategies used by others to begin developing answers for yourself. We will provide information on finding the right job for your interests, outlining strategies for making yourself more marketable to recruiters, crafting an effective resume, and discussing ways to prepare for interviews.
9:40 am – 10:10 am; 12:15 pm – 1:00 pm; 3:40 pm – 4:10 pm
